Fraunhofer SIT

A3 - Lead Contractor

Fraunhofer is an autonomous research organisation with a decentralised organisational structure, which currently maintains 58 research institutes throughout 15 German Länder.

Fraunhofer’s involvement in Serenity

Fraunhofer will focus on the Network & Devices Activity and rely on the 5th Framework Programme project CASENET results i.e. methods and tools developed for the design, verification and validation of cryptographic protocols. Fraunhofer is also involved in the Integration Schemes activity where it is to explore and analyse combinations of security patterns and develop integration schemes that support dynamic reaction on change in the computational environments. As part of the same activity, Fraunhofer will contribute to the development of the Serenity S&D patterns specification languages and to formal semantics of security requirements and patterns. Furthermore, Fraunhofer will be involved in the development of run-time support to be integrated in the Serenity Framework.

Exploitation strategy

As the leading institute of applied research in Germany, Fraunhofer aims to encourage information and technology transfer from research institutes to industry and therefore knows how to ensure a professional exploitation of available research results. Fraunhofer’s objective is to use industrial partners’ or third parties’ licence fees to exploit Serenity’s results. Besides, by taking advantage of its leading position in Serenity’s domain, the institute hopes to open further project opportunities. International publications are also an important part of the exploitation strategy.

As part of ERCIM the European Research Consortium for Informatics and Mathematics, Fraunhofer aims to foster cooperation between research centres with European industries. Fraunhofer can therefore contribute to the exploitation of Serenity’s results with the help of its ERCIM partners which can establish contacts in countries not covered by Serenity.
