University of Malaga

A5 - Lead Contractor

The University of Malaga (UMA) has about 40.000 students. It grants degrees in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering and Computer Science. The research group that involved in Serenity is the Software Engineering Group (GISUM) that is part of the Computer Science Department.

University of Malaga’s involvement in Serenity

UMA will focus on the integration Activity 5. Integration Schemes, on the development and validation of S&D patterns and Integration Schemes for incorporation into the Serenity framework. However, UMA will participate in all WPs of this activity: bibliography, modelling of S&D solutions in forms suitable for automated processing. It will also concentrate on the development of languages and mechanisms to support the specification and evolution of S&D Patterns and integration Schemes. Additionally, it will ensure the conversion of “real world” security and dependability requirements, into rigorous, accurate, traceable, realizable and accountable S&D solutions.

As for A6; UMA will participate in the development of tools to support the specification and management of Security and Dependability patterns and Integration Schemes, the specification of requirements and the selection of appropriate security mechanisms to fulfil the requirements in a specific context. UMA will also contribute to the development of tools for static and dynamic validation and for evolution of S&D Patterns and Integration Schemes UMA’s participation in WP4.1:

UMA will also contribute to A3: Network & Devices and especially to WP 3.2. Development of methods and tools for analysis, verification, attack simulation and mode! based testing of security solutions in dynamic and heterogeneous network infrastructures.

Exploitation Strategy

As an academic institution, the University of Malaga will mainly exploit Serenity as a vehicle to strengthen the Software Engineering Research Group (GISUM) in general, and the Information Security subgroup in particular. UMA’s contribution to Serentiy will encourage the collaboration with other universities, research institutions and private companies. At the same time, Serenity will be used as a vehicle to increase the personnel of the Security subgroup and, therefore strengthen it in order to establish further research projects while improving their quality. International publications are an important part of UMA research, and SERENITY will be used as a vehicle for publication. Therefore, UMA will exploit IPR through the normal routes of Academic Dissemination in journal articles, book articles and conference presentations, and through using the technology developed and know-how obtained as background for future research projects. Moreover, SERENITY will also originate different PhD thesis that will contribute to consolidate university research positions.
